Thailand Gulf Coast

Bangkok to Koh Samui Along the Shore

Pedalers | Thailand | Guided eBike Tour

An 8-day eBike journey from Bangkok to Koh Samui following Thailand's Gulf Coast through Phetchaburi, salt country, fishing communities, long beaches, limestone landscapes and the Kra Isthmus before finishing with a ferry to the island.

Riding days range from 30 to 74 km and are almost entirely flat. Coastal roads, quieter inland alternatives and dedicated bike-path sections create an unusually relaxed long-distance route, while eBike assistance makes the longer stages accessible without changing the pace or character of bicycle travel.

What Makes the Journey Different

This is a coastline journey in the literal sense. After leaving Bangkok, the route reaches the Gulf near Phetchaburi and stays closely tied to the shore through salt flats, aquaculture country, fishing communities, beaches and small coastal towns. Even when the road turns inland, the sea remains the organizing idea of the trip until the final ferry to Koh Samui.

The eBikes are not compensating for mountain terrain; they make long, flat coastal days feel especially easygoing. That creates room for market stops, swims, seafood lunches, cave visits and time at beachfront hotels without turning a 60 or 74 km day into an endurance exercise.

Editorial Angles

Thailand's Salt Coast by Bicycle

Near Cha Am, riders cross one of Thailand's major sea-salt producing regions, where geometric drying flats stretch for kilometers along the shore and fleur de sel is harvested from the surface.

eBikes Without the Mountains

The trip offers a different case for pedal assist: not climbing, but making longer flat stages easy enough that riders can spend more of the day looking outward at villages, coastline and working landscapes.

A Mainland Journey That Ends on an Island

After nearly a week of riding south along the Gulf, the ferry to Koh Samui feels like a continuation of the route rather than a separate resort add-on. The trip finishes with a free island afternoon and farewell dinner on the beach.

Down Thailand's Gulf Coast

  • Phetchaburi to Chao Samran - 30 km: Visit Wat Yai Suwannaram, ride beside aquaculture and sea-grape farms and finish at a beachfront hotel.
  • Salt country to Hua Hin - 65 km: Cross broad sea-salt drying flats, stop at Cha Am's crab market and use quieter inland roads to avoid the busier highway into Hua Hin.
  • Khao Sam Roi Yot - 63 km: Ride beneath limestone ridges and visit a cave while the terrain remains notably flat.
  • Ban Krut & Bang Saphan - 60-52 km stages: Follow the coastline past beaches, fishing country, swiftlet towers, shrimp farms and tidal basins, with beachfront stays at the end of the day.
  • The Royal Road - 74 km: Use a dedicated bike path for much of the Kra Isthmus stage, passing red cliffs, dunes and long stretches of shore.
  • Koh Samui: Ferry from the mainland for a free afternoon on the island and a final dinner beside the Gulf.

How Pedalers Runs the Trip

Guides: Local, English-speaking Thai guides lead the riding and provide route, cultural, food and logistical support along the Gulf Coast.

eBikes: Kaze pedal-assist eBikes are used throughout the trip. The batteries are designed to cover a full riding day when used as pedal assist rather than continuous full boost.

Support: A support van carries luggage and chilled drinking water and provides comfortable ride breaks when needed. Quieter roads are favored over larger highways where practical.

Accommodation: The lodging follows the coast, with small beach hotels, Thai-style bungalow properties and seaside resorts in Phetchaburi, Hua Hin, Kui Buri, Ban Krut, Bang Saphan and Chumphon before a final island stay on Bophut Beach, Koh Samui.

Food: Food is a major part of the trip, especially along a coast where fresh seafood, crab markets and beachside meals naturally become part of the route. Dinners are served family style, with the guide team curating a different menu each evening so guests can sample a broad range of Thai dishes with very little repetition unless someone asks for a favorite again.
